Some people believe that bonding does not begin with your baby until the day they are born, but I think many of us would disagree with that statement.  As a pregnant mom, we are bonding with our unborn child each and every day.  We strive to bond with them every way possible, whether that be talking to them, gently rubbing your belly as they move around, reading books to them, or playing soft music to your belly.   That’s why I was so excited when I learned about a fairly new product on the market for those of us interested in having a safe and easy solution for playing music to our little ones during pregnancy.

Sound Beginnings was fonded by a husband and wife team in 2009.  Their goal was to create a device that allowed pregnant woman the ability to safely, easily, and comfortably play music to their child while in the womb.  After numerous conversations with pregnant woman, they have successfully created a soft fabric band with built-in quality speakers that allows not only woman to play music to their womb but to also be able to listen to the same music with their baby!  Sound Beginnings uses any IPOD or MP3 player and allows you to play any assortment of music or even voices to your baby at a safe volume for the baby.  There is no assembly or disassembly required.  You just slide the band on, stick your MP3/IPOD player in the pocket, and press play!  The band is machine-washable and is thin enough you could really wear it under clothing without much notice to it.   This device is the perfect solution for a busy mom on the go to still be able to play music to her baby each day!

I was able to try Sound Beginnings myself, and I love it!  The band is super comfortable (enough that I almost forget I am wearing it).  I have to tell you that this is a huge improvement from the way I played music to my first two children during pregnancy.  I had been worried about placing a regular speaker directly to my belly, but I wanted to play music to my baby so my husband and I searched far and wide for a solution.  We ended up with a speaker pillow that was made to attach to a CD player.  I was only able to play music to my womb when I was laying down or when I had both hands free to hold the pillow to my belly and have a spot to place our CD player somewhere close to my belly.  That meant I didn’t get to play them music nearly as much as I would have preferred.  Now with the Sound Beginnings I have probably gotten to play music to this baby more in the short time I have had it than I did the entire pregnancy for either of my other two.  It is super easy to throw on while I’m doing laundry, running my daughter to preschool, or taking a walk with the kids.  I tend to only use it for an hour a day, and most of the time I don’t even take advantage of being able to use the splitter to wear my own headphones and listen since I have two active kids around that I have to listen to each and every second of the day.  My only regret about Sound Beginnings is that it wasn’t around for my last two pregnancies!
