It seems like just yesterday that my younger daughter turned two and had a Minnie Mouse themed birthday party. Now I have a three-year-old and we celebrated her birthday in Sesame Street Style. My mother-in-law is simply the best and helped tremendously with the party. It is so easy to have a great inexpensive birthday party when you use a little creativity….and have a little bit of help!

For invitations I made a circular, folded Elmo with eyes that peeked from the top.  Inside was a circular piece of paper with all the details.  The girls loved the invitations so much that I made them little notecards that did not fold.

We made the party favor bags out of primary colored bags from Party City.  With a few (circular) eyes, noses, and mouths we achieved perfection in the forms of Cookie Monster, Elmo, Bert, and Oscar.  The purple monster was supposed to be Abby Cadabby.  I didn’t realize she was pink!  So we turned her in to our own version of a monster and she was the birthday girl’s favorite.

Each morning when the girls wake up on their birthday I have their presents displayed on the mantel with a birthday banner.   This is by far my favorite birthday banner.  The extra ribbons were the wow factor.

This party was brought to you by the Letter A and the Number 3.  The “A” stencil was easy with my Sizzix machine (yep, totally old school).  I do not have a number die cut so we used some black gel I had on hand.  In hindsight, that was a bad idea.  The gel stuck to the bags and had to be peeled off.

While at Michael’s we found bags of white gum balls on clearance for 20¢.  We immediately knew that they would be eyes for Elmo.  Aren’t these cupcakes adorable?

Inside the party bags the favors included: Goldfish (Elmo’s loves his goldfish), a homemade Sesame Street scarf, the cookies, and some play-doh.

For the birthday party game we played “Pin the Nose on Elmo.”  My husband bought that Elmo a long time ago and I put it on thick poster board.  I covered the kids’ eyes with a sesame street scarf.  They had fun!

A birthday wouldn’t be complete without a special birthday outfit.  This year Grandma made the outfit and it was absolutely adorable!  The pants had a white ruffle at the bottom while the top had an Elmo patch.

Every birthday at our house means we get out the “Special Plate.”  This year I used some of the cupcake toppers (purchased from Etsy and printed at home) and decorated the birthday plate before breakfast.  It was a hit!

I love making birthdays special for the girls. With a little bit of creativity anything is possible!
