Baby Event: ERGObaby Carrier Review and Giveaway CLOSED
As a parent, we strive to bond with our child every way we possibly can. One of the ways we can do so is through babywearing. Babywearing keeps your infant close to you while you are on the go, whether it be being productive at home or out and about. With the ERGObaby Carrier, you can hold your child hands-free on your front, back, or hip. It’s an all-in-one carrier that is designed to make babywearing comfortable, safe, and easy.
I fell in love with babywearing when my first child was around 5 months old. It became even more essential and helpful when my second arrived, as we were always out at parks and places that I wanted him close but needed free hands to push my toddler on the swings, etc. I soon began to realize that not all carriers provide comfort for the parent. In fact, not all carriers that I have tried even felt safe enough for me to completely let go of my child and have both hands free. This time around I want to make sure that I have a carrier that is comfortable for me to use, but that I also feel safe and confident with having both hands to do other things. I have heard so many great things about the ERGObaby Carrier and knew it was something I had to try!
We were sent an ERGObaby Carrier for review. Obviously since I’m far into my pregnancy, it would be a little tough for me to give it a try right now, but since the carrier can be used for children up to 40 pounds my husband gave it a go with our 2-year old son. Before I go further into the review, I have to tell you that my husband has tried time and time again to be comfortable with babywearing and has never had any luck. No matter what carrier we have tried for him, they just never seem to fit him right and he is always more uncomfortable than he finds worth it. He gave up on it completely very early on with our second child and I became the sole parent who did the babywearing in our family. When I asked him to put the ERGO on to give it a try with our son, he gave me quite a look. I don’t think he had any hope in enjoying the process at all, which makes my review all the more exciting!
We briefly read the instructions (each position was super easy and not something you had to study and try to understand how to make it work) for the different carrying positions and my husband chose to wear my son on his back similar to a piggyback style. We adjusted the straps on the ERGO to fit my husband best and were quite amazed at how well it fit him. Normally with his broad shoulders, any carrier looks extremely small on his persons, but that did not seem to be the case for the ERGO. After putting our 28-ish pound son into the ERGO and walking around a bit, my husband immediately mentioned that he couldn’t believe that his back was not hurting or that the straps were actually not digging into his body making the wear uncomfortable. My son thought being “tall” on Daddy’s back was super fun so they actually wore it for quite a bit. At no point while wearing my son did my husband feel the need to reach behind him and support my son or keep him from falling out, and my son was very content and excited to be in the carrier. Neither of them complained about any discomfort whatsoever. In fact, I had given up on my husband ever being a babywearing Daddy until the ERGO arrived. After he used it for the review, he mentioned that he wouldn’t mind wearing our new little guy around in it some since he actually felt comfortable in it! Who knew that while I was just trying to get a great carrier for myself, I was actually scoring one that even my husband was going to be excited to use!
I am extremely anxious to give the ERGO a try for myself hands-on, but I can already say that I really like it. When I wore my daughter in carriers, I found myself constantly purchasing different ones that worked for different positions as she grew so that I had the option to carry her more ways. With the ERGO, I can use it from the day my little guy is here (with the help of the infant insert) until well into the toddler years in so many different positions. And what is most comforting is that I don’t have to keep my instruction book with me at all times to try and learn and remember each time I want to try a new carrying position. Since the steps are few, they are easy to remember and be able to do without a struggle. I am pretty sure it’s safe to say that between my husband and I, our new ERGObaby Carrier will get lots of use these next few years!
