It’s true – there is nothing better than a good book. Recently I have been consumed by good books. Consumed in a way that can be compared to a child holding on to her favorite blanket – unable to let go. On December 25th I started reading The Help after receiving it as a present from my younger daughter (it was on my wish list). I finished it at 1:20 am on December 27th. It took me less than 48 hours to read 540 pages – and I read in to the wee hours of the morning. That book made me cry, laugh, and think about life in a time that really wasn’t that long ago. Then I read Unjunk Your Junk Food: Healthy Alternatives to Conventional Snacks
after wrestling it from my husband. That is a non-fiction book that is really informative – more of a reference book! I carry this book in my purse.
In the last few days I read two more books. My friend asked if I would read The Hunger Games if she sent it. You see, it’s published by Scholastic and is a book that middle school and high school students could (and should) read. Once I picked it up and made it past the first chapter I was hooked. I read it in 48 hours. This book is part of a trilogy and I picked up the second book, Catching Fire, at the used book store this morning at 10:30. I finished it tonight at 10:30. In that 12 hour period I took my girls to the park, played Legos, and cooked dinner. It was just so good that every spare minute I had was devoted to reading. It works in my favor that the girls were in bed at 7:45 tonight! There is a third book in the trilogy, but I am going to wait until this weekend to read it. I know I will be hooked and will not want to put it down.
It is so amazing that words on paper can make you yearn for more. Pages quickly turn and words are devoured. If you are looking for books to read I totally recommend the ones in this post. If you have any book recommendations to share, we would love to hear those as well!
