Oh my gosh – we have a new favorite in our house! NCircle Entertainment recently released “The Gruffalo”on DVD and we can’t get enough of it! The Gruffalo is a book originally published in 1999 in the United Kingdom. Over the past several years it has won several prizes for children’s literature and sold over 10.5 million copies. With a story this good, it just made sense to turn it in to a movie!
This animated film tells the tale of a mouse who takes a walk through the woods in search of a nut. He encounters three animals who wish to eat him. But mouse is able to outsmart the fox, owl, and snake by stating that he is going to meet a monster with terrible features. Our favorite feature is a poisonous wart on his nose. But what happens when mouse runs in to the creature of his imagination? You will just have to watch (or read) to find out for yourself! Features the voices of Helena Bonham Carter, James Corden, John Hurt, Tom Wilkinson, Robbie Coltrane, and Rob Brydon.
My girls love The Gruffalo. They like to copy the accents of the children who wish to hear a story about a monster….or a mouse. This movie is short and keeps their attention span wonderfully. The animation is beautiful, colorful, and very appealing. The music is calming. I understand why The Gruffalo has been nominated for an Academy Award.

My favorite book/story growing up was called “Dragon and the Mouse”. Some of our relatives that my sister and I were close with bought the book and had it signed by the author and sent it to us. It was just the coolest book with the best illustrations and we would read it over and over again. I actually have never met anyone else who has heard of the book. It will always be a favorite story.
Thanks!

My favorite book was Little House on the Prairie. Life was hard work, but seemed so family and religion oriented. You worked hard and played hard. And people helped each other, you could rely on neighbors in a pinch and they knew you would be there for them also. The whole collection was given to me for my 10th birthday by my mother who passed away when I was 13. The TV series is still my favorite!!
My favorite book was The Poky Little Puppy.
