Let’s face it….Easter is the new Halloween. There is sugar everywhere. The aisles of Target and Walmart become filled with CANDY of all shapes, sizes, and flavors. Coupons for candy are published in Sunday coupon inserts. There are seasonal favorites in abundance….in our house it is Brach’s Chics and Bunnies and Peeps. Chances are that you have a favorite Easter candy too.
Over the weekend I changed my food pyramid and included SUGAR while omitting VEGETABLES. It was a very bad thing to do. I ingested so much sugar that I am sure it was running through my veins. The candy pictured above is just some of what my girls received from Easter. The *only* candy that we bought for them was one chocolate Easter bunny. The rest if from Easter Egg Hunts that we went to (2 or 3) and they did get a few things from their Grandma. Looking at the photo above makes me drool….but also makes me very sad. I recently went on a knowledge rampage and I know exactly how much sugar I should be consuming every day (it’s 6.25 teaspoons since I am an adult woman). I read Unjunk Your Junk Food and took that knowledge to heart. I haven’t had a soda pop in months. But then Easter weekend happened and an enormous amount of candy was within easy access. And I ate, and ate, and ate. And then I felt like crap.
I am resolving to spend the next 7 days without any sugar or artificial sugar. This means no candy, desserts, sugar-sweetened cereal, or honey added to Greek yogurt or oatmeal. Whole fruit is totally fine and I am not going to slap my wrist if the bread that is already in the pantry includes sugar.
Do you wan to join me? This No Sugar Challenge starts this week (today for me). I will blog about it and post updates on the Coupons Are Great Facebook page. I hope you will chime in via comments on the website and Facebook!

I could easily do this…I’m missing that sweet tooth. Now a week without salt…gasp!!
You and my husband would get along well. He is a major salt consumer. I would take sugar any hour of the day though. 🙂
I have been doing this since January!!
That is impressive! I need your resolve and willpower!
