When Summer is Over Create a Memory

August 14, 2012 by Leandrea Voskanian

We can’t deny it.  Summer is over.  Or summer is almost over if you live in an area where school doesn’t start until September.   One of the best things to do when summer is over is to create a memory.  Perhaps you played in the mud after a water ballon fight, went to a theme park, or had a watermelon seed spitting contest?  If you can’t think of one treasured memory from this summer there is still some time to create a memory that you will remember forever!  Once you have your memories it is time to find a way to remember them years down the road.

Preserve Your Memories For Years to Come:

Create a journal.  Have your children write in a summer journal to record their summer memories.  You can have them create a journal using construction paper with writting paper stapled between the covers, use a Composition Notebook (follow our B2S posts to find the lowest prices this B2S season), or create a customized notebook with their name on it.

Take Photos. Photos are the best way we can record our memories.  Give your kids a disposable camera so you can see the world through their eyes.

Create a photo book of your summer memories.  Scan you children’s doodles, coloring pages, or written excerpts from their summer journal to include alongside your favorite photos.  We make an annual year book and include quotes.  When it arrives in the mail I let the girls doodle on it with permanent marker.  It then preserves their handwriting and thoughts too!

Think outside the box.  Create a customized tote bag, water bottle, calendar,  photo canvas, or even a blanket so these memories are cherishable for years to come!

We create a personalized photo calendar each year to send to the girls’ grandparents and great grandfather.  This is a perfect way to showcase the best photos of our last year.

Do you have any fun or unique ways to preserve your memories?  What was your favorite memory of this summer?  I want to have a watermelon seed spitting contest this week after writing this post!
