The Olympics are here, the Olympics are here!  Have you caught the fever?  Maybe the Olympic Kids Craft: Create a Ring Toss will inspire you to tune in.  Our family is watching a little bit of the Olympics every single day and learning about teamwork, medals, how it feels to lose, and about London.  There are SO many lessons that come with watching the top athletes in the world perform.  It is also the perfect time to do some Olympic Crafts.  Olympic rings are so easy to make and such an important symbol through August 12 and beyond. Olympic Ring Toss

Materials Required:
Toilet Paper Roll
Cardboard
Paint (red, green, black, blue, yellow)
Yellow and Orange Card Stock
Scissors

Directions:
1. Cut “flames” from orange and yellow card stock.

2. Glue or tape the “flames” to a toilet paper roll.

3. Cut circles from card board (I used an empty diaper box so they are nice and sturdy.

4. Paint the circles red, green, black, blue, and yellow to represent the Olympic rings.

5. Watch your child have some fun with their new ring toss game!

Educational Activities:

• History/Social Studies: Discuss with your child the origin of the Olympics (Ancient Greece) and what the rings represent (different continents that participate in the games).
• Math: Make a graph of how many times your child makes a ring around the “torch” and how many times they don’t. You can also see if one color makes the toss more than another.
• Language Arts: Read the book G is for Gold Medal: An Olympics Alphabet (Sleeping Bear Press Sports & Hobbies)with your child and enjoy a “g” food while reading (grapes, goldfish, grape jelly on crackers, etc).
