This year we started getting financially fit. Our first step in this process is to snowball out debt. We do not have credit card debt, but we do have student loans, a van payment, and we have included our small mortgage in to our payoff schedule. Those areas of total debt exceeded $65,000 in January 2010.
In the past three’ish months we have paid off $6,600 in debt!!! That is ten percent of our debt that is GONE! How? We used our tax refund, pulled money out of savings, and started paying extra on our lowest balance payment. In 2009 we watched as our “savings” slowly dwindled away. Living in a “want it have it” world, we did just that. At the end of 2009 we didn’t know where all of our savings had gone. This year we know that our extra money is being used to pay off our debt.
Our goal is to have our $65,000 debt paid off in three years, leaving our only debt our large mortgage. We are committed to this goal and believe it will happen.
