Rio 2 is Now in Theaters

I love that there is almost always at least one children’s movie playing at the movie theater.  If you are looking for a new movie to take your kids to see this weekend then add Rio 2 to your list!

About Rio 2:

Blu, Jewel and their three kids leave their domesticated life in the city of Rio de Janeiro for a journey to the Amazon rainforest, where their owners Linda and Tulio were doing an expedition that seemingly found a hidden tribe of Spix’s Macaws. They run into their old nemesis Nigel the cockatoo, who then decides to seek revenge on the macaws, enlisting poison dart frog Gabi and tamandua Charlie as his minions. Jewel’s long lost father is found in the Amazon.  There are bird bad guys and people bad guys who need to be triumphed over.

Rio 2: My Thoughts

I can’t tell a lie.  I wasn’t a huge fan of the original Rio movie.  I watched it once and that was enough for me.  When I asked the girls if they wanted to see Rio 2 in the theater they were super excited, while I was not.  Oh, the things we do for our kids!  I went to the theater with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked Rio 2.  Afterwards there were several adults who commented that Rio 2 was better than the first movie.  I thought I would be alone with that sentiment, but it was actually pretty popular.  Can you imagine?  A sequel that is better than the original?

One of the reasons why I enjoyed this movie so much is because Kristen Chenowith is in it.  I am infatuated with Wicked because of Kristen Chenowith and Idina Menzel/Adele Dazeem (poor John Travolta).  I feel a bit like a stalker when I was able to identify Kristen Chenowith just by the sound of her voice when say plays Gabi, a poisonous dart frog, in Rio 2.

Rio 2 has an occasional laugh and some great songs.  The bright colors are very engaging to kids.  If you are looking for something to do this weekend, Rio 2 is a great option.
