Atlanta: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Returns to Center for Puppetry Arts #Atlanta

November 15, 2012 by Leandrea Voskanian

Those of us who live in Atlanta are in for a fun Christmas Treat. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™ returns to Center for Puppetry Arts.  The third season of this beloved holiday show opened on November 8th.  The puppeteering geniuses at The Center of Puppetry Arts are letting us experience the timeless tale of Rudolph and his misfit friends, live and on stage.  If you haven’t see this classic then be sure to add it to your calendar this year!

This show is an adaptation of the classic Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.  The puppet stage comes alive with timeless characters including Rudolph, Santa, Hermey the elf, Yukon Cornelius, and the Abominable Snow Monster.  The Center is honored to work again with Character Arts LLC to bring back the licensed puppet stage production of this yuletide classic.

Important: This is a puppet show!  You do not see humans during the show.

Our family went to see Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the Center for Puppetry Arts last weekend and I was very impressed.  This performance is a direct parallel to the original movie.  I love how cushy the seats are at the Center for Puppetry Arts. Before the show the lady next to mean leaned over and whispered “Is this just the movie or will there be puppets?  My friend said it was just the movie.”  I assured her that we were at the Center for PUPPETry arts and that the show would be performed by puppets.

Tip: The line to the show is admitted into the theater 25 minutes prior to the show starting.

Big Sister (age 6) loved “the girl reindeer” and when the reindeer jumped through the snow.  Little Sister (age almost 5) really enjoyed seeing the puppeteers after the show.  They made her giggle.  Both girls said they would love to see this show again!  I will admit, seeing this every year would be a really fun tradition.  I would rather see a live performance any day to a motion picture.  Living in Atlanta and having the Center for Puppetry Arts is absolutely amazing!

I am just throwing this out there – if your child cannot sit through the movie version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer then he/she may have a hard time sitting through this production since it is long.  I think we were in our seats for over an hour for the show alone.

After the show be sure to make your puppet at the Create-a-Puppet Workshop.  The puppet for Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is a Hermey the Elf shadow puppet.  There are two brads, 2 chopsticks, and some tape that hold this guy together…and it takes 10 minutes or less!
