Atlanta residents need to mark their calendars. Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna is here through November 30th, 2014. Just think, in addition to eating turkey on Thanksgiving you can entertain your out of town relatives with a trip to Atlantic Station to see a jaw dropping show while they are in the Atlanta area. Seriously, it has been 48+ hours since I attended the show and I cannot stop thinking about it!

About Amaluna
Amaluna is a love story that takes place on a mysterious island. The cast includes a jealous pet lizard, a hilarious nanny, a mother, and many more actors and actresses (all incredible athletes) with amazing talents. Amaluna (Ama meaning mother and Luna meaning moon) is a show that made a conscientious effort to showcase women. The cast is 70% female and band is 100% women.
Now playing under the famed blue-and-yellow Big Top at Atlantic Station…with great seats as low as $35!

Be Amazed
The Balance Goddess will amaze you while balancing 13 palm branch bones. I won’t give away anything about this act….but you will be on the edge of your seat! You will be wondering “how do you know you have this talent?” The Balance Goddess has been working on this with her father from a young age. In a world of YouTube, Instagram, and more it is easier than you would think to find talents like this (especially because people with such unique talents thrive in the circus industry). Cirque is always looking for the next best big thing.
The Moon Goddess wears a beautiful costume and performs amazing feats. Honestly, I need to keep her talents away from my eight-year-old who is hoola hoop obsessed or she will be asking for circus equipment for her birthday and Christmas.
About Amaluna Costumes
- Each week there is 24 hours of washing costumes and 40 hours of ironing/steaming/fixing costumes.
There are 1,000 costume pieces in the performance of Amaluna.
Each performer has a body scan, which allows for costume pieces to be made without the artist trying on the pieces.
The waterbowl plays a prominent role in Amaluna.
A few fun facts about the waterbowl:
- The water is heated to 98 degrees.
The waterbowl weighs 4,000 pounds when full. It is too heavy to completely remove from the stage.
It takes over 4 hours to fill this tank, which is only filled once per city
The Chinese Pole involves sheer muscular strength. This is an act where you may find yourself gasping. I know I did! Seriously!

i have never been to a cirque show. i would take my 14 year old twins and my nephew that just broke his leg . or hubs is hes not feeling up to it.
We have seen their other shows and it was one of the best show. So we would love to go back and if I win, I will take my husband and my two kids. It will be a great family outing.
I’d like to go because there’s just something inspiring about seeing these performers in person. It’d be rough deciding who to take. I’d love to take my daughter, especially since it’s woman-centric, but it’s probably too late on a school night. I may make it a date night and find another couple to go with us.
I want to see it because Cirque is awesome. I’d take my hubby and my two oldest girls.
