With hot summer days upon us it is always fun to create a craft that allows us to get wet and have fun. This post is a repost from last summer, but we had so much fun with the Sponge Balls that we made that we will be making them again this week. The Dollar Store is an excellent place to buy cheap sponges.
Required Materials to Make Sponge Balls
- Sponges
- Scissors
- Rope/String/Ribbon
Make a Sponge Ball
Cut each sponge in to strips. Five is a good number.
With those five strips we made three rows of five and stacked them on each other. We then tied ribbon around all of the sponge pieces.
Pull tight! The tighter the better.
With the leftover sponge we made a tiny sponge ball. I used too many sponge pieces though. Less would have been better in this case.
My girls loved these toys. They immediately took them in the backyard and caught them in the pool with their butterfly nets. It was a fun way to cool off in the hot afternoon. We plan on making this craft to use as bathtub toys too.
