Creating a Framed Map Collage

May 19, 2012 by Leandrea Voskanian

Creating household art can be fun, frugal, and inspiring.  Today’s guest post is brought to us by Jessie from Creative Expressions.

So, I have decided to be different.  I decided to pin things on Pinterest and actually complete them!
A while back, I pinned this map, thinking it would be part of a large collage in my bedroom.  I then followed through and completed my pin!

To complete this project I used:

  • Buttons
  • Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • Printer and Paper
  • Picture Frame
  • Pencil
  • Glue Stick-the rub on kind
  • Scrapbook paper for background
  • heart or other sticker

First, I bought this pretty frame at my local Wal-mart

I then hit the internet and went to Google Maps, and looked up the address. In this case, it was Crown Hill, West Virginia. That led me to this map, which I printed out. ***Please notice the handy red dot/letter A-this is important. 🙂 ***

I decided to also search for a heart coloring page, so that I had a template I could use. IF you can draw a perfect heart, well then, you ARE AMAZING! and I am envious! lol

Cut out your template and test fit it into the picture frame opening.

Go ahead and place your background paper into the frame. Run your finger along the edge, to give you a straight cutting line, if your paper is too big.

Remove your background paper from the frame and place on a flat surface. Glue the buttons, so that they will fit underneath your heart. If you do not want the floating appearance, leave off the buttons and proceed.

Using your heart template, cut out your heart map and secure it on top of the buttons, using a glue stick.

***NOW, here’s where that little red circle and A come in handy- my hubby is so particular. Like UBER particular. Well, thanks to that little A, my heart sticker is EXACTLY where our home town is. He even said-“How’d you know where to put the sticker?” I am sooo NOT telling! 😉
Place your sticker on the circle and we’ll never tell. 🙂 TA DA! You have finished an actual Pinterest project! It IS possible. lol
