I recently received a giant box filled with super goodies from MomSelect. When I came home from shopping one day this box was waiting at the doorstep and I was just like a kid when I opened it. There was some definite “ooohing” and “awwing” on my part. When my girls woke up from their naps there was even more!
PlayMobile makes a terrific advent calendar. We received the The directions say this calendar takes 25-30 minutes to put together, and they were not kidding. (I actually think it took me a bit longer as I was watching Christmas programs at the same time). Starting December 1st we have been opening the boxes on this calendar and my girls are so giddy with anticipation in the morning that I can’t help but smile. The recommended age for this advent calendar is 4, and I definitely agree with that. My girls are 23 months and a little over three. They enjoy the toys that come with this, but I can tell that if they were a little bit older they would love it more.
We tried hanging up the calendar, but all the boxes came crashing down. This calendar is essentially a month long project that requires a lot of room as it is a whole play scene. If your children are careful (as a four-year-old probably is) when opening the boxes then you should be able to repackage this calendar and use it for future Christmases.
Overall, I think this is a great activity for who it was intended for – children ages 4+. This particular calendar is not Christmasy at all and could conceivable be used any month of the year. Number recognition is a skill that children can practice while finding their boxes to open. Imaginative play will be enhanced with all of the toys that come with this.
