Little Sister has a birthday in January. She chose to have a penguin birthday party. My girls have a special knack of choosing birthday parties that are not commercialized (Care Bears birthday party and Dumbo birthday party).
What would a birthday party be without a cute shirt for the birthday girl to wear? Using the same methodology from the Put a Number on it!: Custom Birthday Shirts Tutorial my mother-in-law and I created a Penguin Shirt. She is very crafty and drew the penguin pattern and I used the Heat ‘n Bond to adhere the fabric to the shirt. I love that stuff!!!
The goodie bags we put together for the kids contained Penguin Cookie Pops, r”ICE” Crispies, Penguin-type Goldfish crackers (from Aldi), and a penguin mask. The good bag itself was from Target’s Christmas clearance. Using PicMonkey I created a cute little tag to staple onto the front of the bag.
We made the most adorable penguin masks out of felt. I will post a whole craft post on that soon! The kids loved the masks and I loved that we did something other than a party hat.
The Penguin Cake Pops were completely the idea of my mother-in-law. Using triangle shaped cookies we created cookie sandwiches with frosting in the middle. We added a sucker stick to the frosting in the middle and a white Wilton candy melt for the face. Pretty cute! A
The goodie bags looked really cute all lined up in the box to take to the party….which was at Chuck E Cheese (more on that later).
One of the best parts was the Penguin Birthday Cake. This cake seems so easy….and it was…..but we ran in to oven issues not just once but twice. Isn’t the finished product so cute? For what it’s worth, black food coloring tastes incredibly bad. That’s really an understatement. Red tastes bad too.
The girls and I were using Perler beads throughout the week and I made two penguin perler beads just for fun. These little guys make me smile. If you have a 3-4 year old and you want to try Perler beads with them but think they are too small then you are probably correct. Get the Biggie Beads which are the perfect size for little hands!
Overall I think the party was a big success. There was one other party at Chuck E Cheese while we were there and one of the parents came over to talk about everything that we had done. Her daughter fell in love with all of it and she wanted to have a penguin birthday party for her daughter.
