I recently posted about my personal experience with the military and shared about the sendCheer campaign. By purchasing specially marked boxes of Cheerios cereal you will be able to cut out a “Cheer” postcard to mail to military families through a partnership with the USO. Last week I went shopping with my very own little pilgrim to gather supplies for our Operation Cheerios sendCheer. We headed to Walmart where we purchased several boxes of specially marked boxes of Cheerios. Truth be told, we also looked for coupons on those specially marked boxes.

We brought our items home and made some fun goody bags to give to our friends. You see, we really want to help spread the cheer. My friends all have children and there is nothing cuter than when a child writes a letter to someone else. I thought it would be fun to put a few boxes of Cheerios in to gift bags for a few friends so they could complete their own sendCheer post card with their families.

But the fun didn’t stop there! We had our own sendCheer postcard to prepare. With the help of some scissors we cut out the post card and my older daughter wrote on it. Her message “All soldiers are grate. Love Natalie V.” The post card received a few stickers and has been placed in the mailbox. It is on it’s way to making someone smile!

As for the gift bags we have to give to our friends…..they will eventually make it to them. With Thanksgiving week here it was impossible to get together. But this is a mission that is close to my heart and it will be a priority to continue spreading the cheer early next week. Our Cheerios didn’t all fit in to our airtight container, so I think some All-American Snack Mix will be a perfect addition to our Thanksgiving day! This will keep the girls busy and give them something to “bake” while I am in the kitchen!

Be on the lookout for specially marked boxes of Cheerios sendCheer and pick up your own box! This is a fun family activity that teaches history, compassion, caring, and more. As an added bonus, for each postcard received Cheerios will donate $1 to the USO to help support programs for military families. Cheerios has already donated $150,000 and will donate up to an additional $100,000 based upon the number of postcards received by November 30, 2012.
Send cheer this holiday season!
