Being in the midst of long hot summer days there is one thing we want to accomplish this summer. Everyone wants to have fun….but we don’t want to break the bank. Summer fun happens every day without spending much (or any) money at all! Sure, heading to a theme park or beach house is great, but we don’t need to spend half of our savings in the course of just one week.
Summer Fun on a Budget Ideas
Have bonfire/cookout
Regardless of how hot it is during the summer, a cookout and bonfire is always a hit. Fire up the old fire pit and roast some hot dogs the old fashioned way. Or grab a bag of marshmallows and some chocolate bars. There are now some flat marshmallows that would be great in some backyard (or tin foil) S’mores!
Have a charitable day
Find some type of charity to contribute to. For example, run a car wash and donate the funds to the homeless shelter or some other good cause. If you do it as a family or group of friends you will have tons of fun while helping someone at the same time. View our Summer Schedule for other ideas that you can do on a weekly basis.
Camp Out
Every kid should have some basic woodsman survival skills in case they get lost. Teach important skills including: how to build a fire, what to do if they get lost and how to find safe water to drink in an emergency. Take some time to show them. (If you don’t know how, then learn). You may even be able to go Geocaching while you are camping! If camping outdoors isn’t for you, set up a tent (or make a fort) in your living room.
Organize a neighborhood talent show
Everyone has a talent and most people have one that might surprise you. Go out in the neighborhood and recruit some folks to put on a talent show. You may be blow away at how many people come to this event.
Have a garage sale and reward yourself with what you make
If you want to go do something that requires money then organize an awesome garage sale that will line your pockets with a little extra cash. Take whatever you make and treat yourself or the family to something that costs money. At least you won’t be spending your budget money.
Summer fun is only as expensive as you allow it to be. If your funds are low, then simply take on a creative attitude and build your fun all by yourself!
