There are two things that Dave Ramsey said that totally changed my way of thinking. The first, “It’s easy to become wealthy if you don’t have any payments.” True, very true! The second thing that made me chuckle was “No, there are no secrets, and yes, this will be very hard. Hey, if it were easy, every moron walking would be wealthy.” My husband and I both read this book and are currently working on our debt snowball.
The strategy behind The Total Money Makeover is to complete these seven steps.
Step 1: Start an emergency fund with $1,000 in it.
Step 2: Pay off all debt with the debt snowball.
Step 3: Save 3-6 months worth of expenses.
Step 4: Invest 15% of your income in to Roth IRA’s and pre-tax retirement.
Step 5: College Funding for children
Step 6: Pay off your home early
Step 7: Build wealth and give.
While I do not agree with everything that Dave Ramsey says, I think that his book is definitely worth reading, and I would recommend that almost everyone I know read it. I enjoyed it so much that I am giving it away to one of my lucky winners. I purchased this book myself from my Swagbucks winnings.
