Cars 2! In Theaters Today – Be Early to Watch the Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation Short

June 24, 2011 by Leandrea Voskanian

Today is a highly anticipated day – Cars 2 debuts in theaters across the nation.  I attended a media sneak peek of this movie last weekend and I really enjoyed it.  I have two daughters who I try to not “Princessicize” too much.  We have a few cars in our house, play with blocks, and get dirty in the mud.  But, they are little girls, and their current obsessions are Tangled and Tinkerbell.  I wasn’t sure how they would do seeing Cars 2 and we didn’t prep before by watching the original Cars. Instead, we took out our giant Cars coloring books to water paint and colored pictures of the characters.  My husband and I planned on taking the girls to see Cars 2 in theaters before we had media passes, so it was just a matter of time before we took a family trip to the movie theater.

The common perception of sequels is to think “Oh no, why did they?” But Cars 2 breaks the mold by introducing new characters and settings. The plot involves a few of our beloved characters from the original movie, but is a story that can be viewed independently. Young children like my daughters will enjoy this movie, but older children will really like it! The storyline revolves around spies and spy technology.  There is enough subtle adult humor in it to keep us chuckling while our children are entranced with bright colors and fun characters.

There was about 20 minutes left of the movie when my younger daughter (age 3) started asking when it was going to be over.  She had given herself a headache with the 3D glasses since she would put them on and take them off repeatedly.  My older daughter (age 4.5) watched the entire movie start to finish.  Afterwards they both declared that they enjoyed the movie.  Without a doubt, this is a movie that my husband and I would not have minded paying money for to see as a family of four.

Without a doubt, we all really enjoyed the Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation short that played before the movie.  Make sure you get there early enough to see that!
