My Target 75% Toy Haul

July 28, 2010 by Leandrea Voskanian

This day of the year is my favorite and my husband’s least favorite. It is one of the days of the year that I look forward to with anticipation!!

I am lucky enough to live by a lot of Targets. The girls and I stopped by the Target that is 1.5 miles from our house at lunch time and I was pleasantly surprised to see the much anticipated 75% off sign. The particular Target I stopped at is not in synch with the other toy clearance days – they are a day ahead or a day behind. This store did not pull all the toys to one or two aisles. Instead, they left they toys on their pegs and changed the prices as they went down the aisles. Every toy that I came across that had a red clearance sticker was marked to 75%. Woohoo!!!

I went to the Target 5 miles down the road and their clearance prices were still 30% and 50%. I cannot forecast if the clearance will drop to 75% at all/more stores tomorrow, but you can guarantee that I will be there in the morning to check it out!  For the past two summers Target has dropped their toy/summer clearance to 75% on the last Thursday of July.  It appears that this summer will be no different.

Above is today’s haul – paid for with gift cards and money from selling old toys on Craigslist.

The good thing about kids is how quickly they forget. They each picked out the Disney Princess necklace and held on to it like gold. We found a rope swing and we need a new one in the back yard, so after that it was like no other toys existed. Plus, they were drinking icees and I put some toys on the bottom of the cart. I have 3 totes in my closet that are gift totes. We use a lot for birthday presents and save some for the girls. Some small ones will be rewards or used for long car trips to the beach.

Since you took the girls with you, I assume they saw you purchase the toys. Do they get them all now? Do you save them for b’day/Christmas hoping they will forget you have them in your secret storage place? Do you save them as rewards? Are those gifts for other kids?
