The Secret of the Wings is now on DVD. This news is very exciting for all of the Tinkerbell fans out there. This movie is a must add to your collection!
A Brief Synopsis of Secret of the Wings
The fairies of Pixie Hollow are forbidden to go to the Winter Woods. Tinker Bell, ever so curious, crosses the border and discovers that she has a sister named Periwinkle. This new duo works together to save their two worlds which become threatened by a force of nature.
My Thoughts
My girls and I sat down to watch this movie and it is our favorite Tinkerbell movie to date! For years we have loved Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. We own the first three Tinker Bell Movies (Tinker Bell, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, and Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue) and have watched each of them many times.
Big Sister (age 6) said she loves the new characters from the Winter Woods. Agreed! From their blue outfits to their frosty hair the Winter Woods Fairies bring a new element of fun. Little Sister (age 4) deemed all the “silly parts” as her favorite as well as the music.
I loved that there was no villain in this story. It’s true! Disney movies without a bad guy exist. Despite there being no villain there is still plenty of obstacles to overcome.
The positive messages of this story were exactly what I want in movies for my children. Since I have two little girls I love that this movie is about being sisters and the special bond that sisters share. Siblings bicker and fight and it is nice to see two heroines who are sisters getting along, having fun, and solving problems. The sisters learn how important it is to follow rules, which is another important life lesson that children can take away from the Secret of the Wings. Parents may also realize that some of the rules they have may be relaxed a little and everything will still be fine.
I felt so silly as I watched this movie and had a few little tears pop up in the corner of my eyes. Really? I am 31-years-old and a children’s movie made me cry. It’s true, as embarrassing as that is to type.
Did you know that Mae Whitman is the voice of Tink? I had no idea. She is one of my favorites on Parenthood!
The only thing that I do not like about this movie is the lovey dovey crush type scenes with Rosetta and Sled. I just want my girls to be little while they still have the opportunity. They will grow up fast enough that these completely innocent years are rare. So yes, I may be that mom who frowns upon crushes and silly love stereotypes in movies geared for young children. That being said, those scenes are small and pretty insignificant in my overall opinion of the movie.
I received the 3-D/Blu-Ray/Regular DVD combo pack to review and I was ecstatic when I popped in the DVD (we are old school around here) and the extras were on the DVD!!!! There is a 22 minute bonus adventure starring Rosetta that is funny and fun to watch. You can also watch two music videos which are amazing. The music in Secret of the Wings is two thumbs up. There is a teeny little digital short that is absolutely perfect to watch before Halloween, but great to watch any day of the year.
