My girls and I made the Make Your Own Chewing Gum kit this afternoon. I had an absolute blast making this with my girls. From the kit I learned that gum CAN be made with natural substances (chicle). We were able to touch, feel, and taste chicle. Then we melted it, added corn syrup, and powdered sugar, and created gum. A little bit of flavoring later and we were like a full fledged candy store! I love how easy this kit was to use. I am all about recycling everything possible, but simply throwing away the sticky container was also very nice.
This is a great gift for teachers, troop leaders, and children over the age of eight. My girls are 4 and 6 and honestly, they were not nearly as excited about this candy making kit as I was. As parents we sometimes think “Oh, that age recommendation isn’t all that important” but I really think that the manufacturer knows what they are talking about on this one! That being said, this is a great classroom project for children of any age.
