The Muppets Wish Us a Happy Thanksgiving! Plus a Review from a Non Fan

November 22, 2011 by Leandrea Voskanian

The buzz has been building about The Muppets (in theaters on November 23rd).  My almost-four-year-old was Kermit-struck every time she saw an ad or commercial for The Muppets.  But I have to admit – I am not a Muppets fan.  I think I need to change that, I was not a Muppets fan.  I took my daughter to a sneak peek of The Muppets this weekend and I enjoyed it more than she did.  This movie was funny.  I loved the singing and dancing and the humor.  I am sure there were a few Muppets references that I did not catch, but I obviously didn’t notice. Really, the only thing that I think could have made this movie better would have been a guest appearance by Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Fans know what I am talking about).  The guest star cameos were awesome!  Over the long Thanksgiving weekend I think we will head to the theater to watch this as a family of four (my husband and older daughter want to see it).  So, even though I saw this movie for free the first time there is no doubt that I will be paying to see it a second!

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With signature celebrity cameos, Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
