It is no secret that my family loves shopping at Aldi Supermarket. I make at least one trip a week to stock up on produce. One question that I hear often is “Does Aldi carry organic produce?” and “Does Aldi carry organic products?” The answer to both of these questions is yes, Aldi stores are starting to carry organic and locally grown produce.
In early January 2013 Aldi launched a new line of organic products that included organic cheese, organic fruit snacks, organic canned tomatoes, organic chips, and a few other organic items.
A week ago I noticed that my Atlanta area Aldi carried Organic Apples in the produce section. To my happy surprise yesterday (February 9, 2013) I found some amazing “ORGANIC” and “LOCALLY GROWN” signs in the produce section of my Aldi. I did a double take. Did that sign really say “Locally Grown?” Hooray! I don’t even think that Publix has those signs (correct me if I am wrong). Now Aldi is now sporting “USDA ORGANIC” and “LOCALLY GROWN” signs! That’s right – Aldi Organic Produce….and Aldi Locally Grown….all in the same sentence!
I found USDA Organic Apples priced at $4.69 for 3 pounds.

I also found USDA Organic Bananas priced at $1.19 for 2 pounds. I was shocked. The normal price of non-organic bananas at Kroger is $0.59 a pound, which is the Aldi organic price!

Aldi also carries locally grown produce as well. It appears that they are still working on signage placement because the Avocados sign says “Product of Mexico.” With some investigation it would be very easy to see which items were locally grown (I think it is the mini cucumbers for sure…and possibly the regular cucumbers as well).

Shopping local is important to many families and the push for locally grown produce is becoming important. Aldi stepped up to the plate and they had locally grown carrots!

With Aldi carrying organic produce it gives them a huge lead over their competitors. Their produce prices are already amazing, and add organic produce to the mix and it is FABULOUS!!! To see what is on sale this week check out the Aldi Supermarket Produce Prices post.
Have you noticed any organic or locally grown produce items at your Aldi stores?
