Kindergarten Homework: A Pirate Turkey Disguise

November 14, 2013 by Leandrea Voskanian

Last week we received fun Kindergarten homework to complete as a family.  The mission was to disguise our turkey so it wouldn’t be eaten for Thanksgiving.  Little Sister  brainstormed and decided that she wanted her turkey to look like a pirate.  Aye!  It was a great idea.  Me and me hearties got to work after Little Sister told us what she envisioned.   If you are wondering how to make a paper pirate out of a turkey the possibilities are endless, but a hook hand is a MUST!

If you love reading fun books, Turkey Trouble is the perfect book to read while doing this project.  “Turkey is in trouble. Bad trouble. The kind of trouble where it’s almost Thanksgiving . . . and you’re the maincourse. But Turkey has an idea–what if he doesn’t look like a turkey? What if he looks like another animal instead?  After many hilarious attempts, Turkey comes up with the perfect disguise to make this Thanksgiving the best ever!”

One of Little Sisters first steps was to glue a Googley eye onto the turkey so he had two eyes.  I love that part of their development where their little brain just can’t conceive of things turned sideways.  After a trip to the craft room we gathered construction paper, feathers, and felt.  A quick trip outside yielded a stick for the very important wooden leg.

Our family Pirate Parrot Turkey has construction paper clothes, a stick leg, feathers, a construction paper sword, a tin foil hook, and a felt hat.  The cross bones are made out of q-tips (Big Sister’s idea).  There is even a little treasure near out turkey’s wooden leg.  While we were working on our family project I busted out some Pirate Jokes for Kids.  It was a very fitting time for this joke:

What is a pirates favorite subject in school?
Aaaaarrrrt

This kindergarten homework was fun for our entire family.  If you love collaborative projects, I highly recommend you make a turkey in disguise before Thanksgiving!

Do you have a favorite Kindergarten homework assignment that you did with your kiddo?  Or do you have a favorite craft of all time that your kiddo created?

That is so cute! It looks like it would be really fun to do too. A turkey as a pirate – HA!
