With a pantry full of everything that doesn’t make sense together or a pantry full of nothing that really doesn’t make sense together, what can you whip up for one of you daily meals or snacks? The authors of “The Frugal Foodie Cookbook: Waste-Not Recipes for the Wise Cook” take your everyday kitchen food and turn them in to deliciousness. Eating at home is the ultimate way to save money and eat better.
Being frugal is about getting the most value from your food. It doesn’t mean using absolutely the least expensive ingredients. (introduction)
As I flipped through this book I was amazed at how many recipes called for things I already had in my kitchen that I never thought about putting together. I had a lightbulb moment when I read the recipe for scrambled eggs that called for water instead of milk. I can recall numerous Sunday morning when I have gone to make scrambled eggs only to find we were out of milk. It never occurred to me to use water. One of these weekends I am going to secretly try it to see if anyone notices. 😉 The recipe for Cracker Toffee (p. 70) has three incredients (saltine crackers, unsalted butter, and brown sugar). How fun would it be to make your own candy at home using regular ingredients. We are definitely going to try this!
This book brings back good old fashion common sense kitchen skills. In a fast paced world many of us (myself included) were not taught and have not taken the time to learn how to maximize our kitchen to its’ fullest. “The Frugal Foodie Cookbook” is about more than just saving money and eating healthy, it is about instilling fundamentals. If you are serious about saving money in the kitchen then The Frugal Foodie Cookbook: Waste-Not Recipes for the Wise Cook should be on your counter.

We have a lot of favorite traditions during Christmas but one of my favorites is getting together with my HUGE family and having a white elephant gift exchange. It is so fun to see all of the crazy gifts people bring and also to see how competitive my family members get over some of the gifts 🙂

It is hard to say but I think my favorite is one my husband and I are reviving this year. We are going to start having a BIG family Thanksgiving with as many of his aunts, uncles & cousins that can make it. So far we are at 15 guests for dinner. Makes for some interesting conversations and someone always throws a roll when you ask for the rolls to be passed. I think my boys who never experienced this will really enjoy it.
my favorite holiday tradition is setting up the christmas tree! It’s always fun to see the lights come out again, and I have memories associated with certain homemade ornaments…
