A Stockpile Yard Sale

May 7, 2010 by Leandrea Voskanian

A few years ago I started stockpiling stuff – all sorts of stuff.  If it helped me earn Register Rewards at Walgreens, roll my Extra Care Bucks at CVS, or was a freebie and helped me reach a $/$$ amount at Rite Aid I bought it.  My intentions in the beginning were noble.  I was going to donate all the stuff I bought.  Then I realized that I have to drive pretty far to an area that I am not familiar with to donate my goods.  I kept piling and piling stuff and one day last summer I decided that it need to go!

When I envisioned a stockpile yard sale I thought that the time required to tag every little item I had accumulated would not be worth it in the end.  Then I realized there was one concept I totally missed – TOTES!!!  Yes, you put your stuff in totes with the price tag on the outside of the tote/box.  How easy is that?

A few weeks ago our neighborhood had a neighborhood wide sale.  I woke up at 6:00 am to thunder and lightening.  At 7:00 I grumpily climbed out of bed to determine if I was indeed going to have a yard sale that day.  I did not intend for it to be in my garage.  As I was still deciding at 7:30 the first people showed up.  I didn’t have time to close my garage door after that – people kept coming despite the pouring rain!  I sold some baby stuff, some clothes, and a few household items.  Most of the money at my sale was from stockpiled goods though.  I made $355 for 5.5 hours worth of garage saling.

I am including photos which a friend requested I take.  Note: they are horrible!  I was NOT planning on having a yard sale out of my garage and it was raining when I took them.  You can see from the photos that I really didn’t have that much stuff to sell!  Stockpile items really do add up!

It's so great to see this post! I am preparing for a "Community Garage Sale" that I organize every other year. I started "stockpiling" a year ago and also had intensions of donating more than I have. I can't beleive how much money makers that I had squirreled away from the past year. I am almost embarassed to say that I have already priced 17 boxes (copy paper boxes) of brand new items from my stockpile that we do not use or have way too much excess of. I am really hoping that this stuff does sell, otherwise I will have to figure out what to do with it. It's great to hear that you were able to sell your stuff – it gives me hope! Thanks for posting! 🙂
