Be Friendly to Cashiers + My Rite Aid Trip

April 25, 2011 by Leandrea Voskanian

Being friendly to your cashiers is so important.  Cashiers are the people who see you at the store trip after trip.  They are the ones who scan your coupons, enter your LU numbers (Publix shoppers), and help fix errors.  You know what?  Supervisors and managers are not people to be afraid of either!  These are the people you need for overrides (that is a dreaded word, isn’t it?) and answers to sometimes funny questions.  Most store employees are there to make your shopping experience pleasant.

I was at Rite Aid on Saturday afternoon putting together a spend $30 on Cleaning Items get a $10 +Up Reward scenario.  Normally I plan at home, but I ran out of time and needed a new Swiffer Wet Jet.  So I headed to the store with my printed video value coupons and 4 P&G inserts.  My goal was to get a Swiffer for the least money out of pocket.  In my arsenal was a Lysol wipes raincheck and a few $1.50/1 Lysol printable coupons.  I had a question about my Lysol raincheck so I asked the sweet Assistant Manager my questions.  She asked me if I was using the Rite Aid coupon for the Lysol as well.  I had no idea what she was talking about.  There are $1/1 Lysol coupons on the “balloons” that you autograph when you donate money to a selected charity.  She told me that some of her earlier customers had donated but didn’t want the coupons.  Then she said the magic phrase: “If you make a donation I will give you the leftover coupons.”  Wooohooo!  I did two transactions so I could use two $3/$15 survey coupons.

Transaction 1:
1 Gain Dish Washing Soap: $0.00 ($0.89 – $1.00 coupon adjusted down)
4 Lysol Wipes: $1.00 ($10.00 – $6.00 printable Lysol coupons – $3 RA balloon coupon)
1 Allegra: $5.59 – $5.00 coupon
1 Sunday Newspaper: $1.60
– $3/$15 from receipt survey
Subtotal: $0.19

Transaction 2:
1 Swiffer Wet Jet: $14.19 ($19.19 – $5/1 P&G)
2 Lysol Wipes: $0.00 ($1.98 with Raincheck – $1.98 RA coupons adjusted down)
– $3/$15 from receipt survey
– $10 +Up
Subtotal: $1.19
Received $10 +Up

$2 Balloon Donation – received 5 balloons total

So I paid $3.38 + tax for 1 Swiffer Wet Jet, 6 Lysol Wipes, 1 Allegra, and 1 Sunday Newspaper.  Coupons are Great!  I would not have been able to do this without the assistant manager helping me though!

It only takes a few minutes to send an email to a company about an employee who made your shopping trip a great one.  Your praise eventually gets passed down to the actual person and can even go in their file.  So this week, my challenge is to send an email about a great cashier or manager.  Will you do the same?
