The girls and I have had fun crafting in a different sort of way lately – we created butterfly hair clips for their hair. This craft is easy, fun, and for adults since there is hot glue involved.
Butterfly Hair Clip Materials
- Scissors
- Glue Gun (super glue works as well)
- Ribbon – green, white, and colored
- Hair Clips
Butterfly Hair Clip Tutorial
To start this project you cover your clip with green ribbon. The way I prefer to do this is to start at the back, wrap around to the front, and then wrap under the front.
To make the butterfly’s antennae I cut the edges off of the green ribbon and then burned them so they did not fray. I then attached them to the top of the butterfly.
Then I took colored ribbon (polka dot is adorable, but I chose hot pink) and formed a figure eight. Glue that in place or can continue and make another figure eight. Upon completion you will have all 4 butterfly wings.
Glue that to the barrette.
The last step is to take the white ribbon and make swirlies (don’t you love that made up word?) on the body of the butterfly. Secure each loop with a drop of glue.
Isn’t this butterfly hair clip so adorable? My girls absolutely love wearing this in their hair. Once I got the hang of making them it became incredibly easy and I can make them very quickly.
