If you carry a camera around on your neck then you know just how uncomfortable the strap is when it digs in to your neck. By finding your favorite fabric you can create a padded camera strap cover tutorial that is fun and budget friendly. The following tutorial is for beginning sewers. Be forewarned, they are so easy to make you may find yourself making several….a few for yourself and a few for friends. Honestly, the hardest part of making this Do It Yourself Fabric Camera Strap is slipping it on to your camera! A huge thanks goes out to my mother-in-law who showed me how to make this.

Make a DIY Fabric Camera Strap Cover
1) Measure your camera strap from one end to the other, not including the leather on each end. Mine measured around 21 inches long by 1 3/4 inches wide. I then doubled the width and added 1 inch for seam allowances. Measure a piece of Iron On Batting to be the same length as your camera strap (around 21 inches) and 4 3/4 inches wide. My exact measurements were 21 inches long by 4 3/4 inches wide.
2) Place the iron on batting on your fabric and cut a piece of fabric that will encase the iron on batting. You want there to be about a two inch overlap.
3) Iron the Iron On batting to the wrong side of the fabric. I placed waxed paper on top of my ironing board to ensure that it didn’t become sticky during this project.
4) Turn the fabric over so the white batting is on the ironing board. Fold one piece of fabric on the back and then cover with the other piece. You will see the wrong sides of the fabric, which is what you want.
5) Sew a line across each end of the incorrectly facing fabric just above the batting. Trim.
6) Turn the material around the batting so you see the right side of the fabric. It’s just like turning a pillow case inside out. Isn’t it pretty? And it looks so close to being complete.
7) Cut a one inch strip of Heat and Bond that is just about the length of your strap. Iron it where the fabrics overlap so that it closes the strap. Be sure to iron it on, remove the paper, and then iron the fabrics closed. This is a great step that gets out out of sewing!
8 ) Sew a line across each of the ends. This will help create a finished look. Sewing double seams gives the camera strap a little more oomph, if you like oomph!
9) Fold the rectangle in half, pin if required, and sew along the edge to finish the camera strap.
