Donate School Supplies to Children in Need #bagitforward

August 12, 2011 by Leandrea Voskanian

Every year millions of children go to school without school supplies.  Elmer’s want to ensure that children go back to school with the supplies they need to be successful in the classroom.  The company will donate a product to the Foundation’s national network of free stores, where teachers from disadvantaged schools can “shop” for free for school supplies. Products to be donated include a variety of glues, foam board, project supplies and pencil sharpeners.

You can help donate Elmer’s supplies to kids in need without leaving your chair. First, like Elmer’s on Facebook for a super easy donation.  Next, watch the The Kids In Need Foundation video and a second school supply will be added to the total.  Third, follow Elmer’s on Twitter and a third item will be donated.  Be sure to complete these items on or before September 1st.

Let’s have the children of today focus on educational opportunities in the classroom NOT what school supplies they do not have.

This summer Elmer’s has teamer up with 50 bloggers to kick off the BagItForward movement.  These bloggers are purchasing school supplies for families or organizations of their choice and encouraging others to join in!  We are so excited to be part of this group.

What do you say?  Let’s join together and Bag It Forward, by picking up an extra bag of school supplies and donating it locally in your community.  Head to your UPromise account and load the Elmer’s or Krazy Glue coupons to your drug store or grocery card.  You will earn a percentage of your purchase in to your UPromise account.   Skip that cup of coffee today (don’t be mad at me) and use that $3 to buy a few school supplies.  Let your children do the shopping so they start to understand how it is important to help others.  You can share in the excitement and show that you Bagged it forward by posting a photo on the Bag It Forward site.  Don’t worry, you do not need to be a blogger to share your photo.

Donating is a very important part of our family.  Each month we take a minimum of 10 food items to the food bank.  Each Christmas we pick a name from a tree and buy presents for a child.  And this year we started a new tradition.  We will now donate a bag (or 2) of school supplies each year to children in need.  We know that people in our own town and maybe even our neighborhood are suffering from hunger and it only makes sense that those same families will not be able to purchase school supplies.  We purchased Elmer’s Glue All, a No-Wrinkle Glue pen, and some Rubber Cement to keep at home.  Can you believe that Walmart was all out of glue sticks?

You can see our ThisMoment story and watch as two children under the age of five Bag It Forward.  We dropped off a backpack full of supplies to a local elementary school.  The secretary was going to give our supplies to the school counselor.  She thanked us over and over again!

You can help spread the word about Bag It Forward.  Please Tweet, Share On Facebook, or stumble this post to help spread the word!

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Elmer’s #BagItForward #collectivebias.  All opinions are my own.

Wow…Walmart was out of glue sticks?? I guess that is because Elmer’s glue sticks work the best and everyone knows it! I love the picture of the girls outside the school…so cute!!
