Family is Great: Our Week in Pictures Through April 8th

My older daughter had a scavenger Easter egg hunt at school.  The 15 kids in class had to each find eggs that were numbered 1 to 10.  There were a special eggs that were marked with special stickers that were freebies and you could take if you found them first.  This was so much fun!  The kids really had to think about what they were doing.  The teacher, assistant teacher, and myself were on the playground helping and it was a very successful event.  Only one egg couldn’t be found!  That’s not bad considering there were 150+ on the playground.

We went to another Easter Egg hunt and they had the CUTEST balloon display.  It was a bamboo stick with a huge styrofoam ball at the top with balloons straight pinned in and secured on the lip of the balloon.  Streamers were added for an extra element of adorableness.  I truly had to take a photo so I can recreate this in the future.  I am thinking Kindergarten graduation.  Or 4th of July.  Or both!

The girls got their faces painted.  How cute are those Peep like bunnies?  I seriously need to start face painting for parties.  My artistic skills aren’t great, but sheesh, I am sure I could do a bunny!

The girls each held birds.  My dad and I think they were turkeys….ok, so my dad thinks they are turkeys.  He probably knows the real answer since he used to have chickens.  Holding birds is an activity that made both girls a little squeamish!

The girls also rode their first roller coaster’ish ride.  Now, we don’t really do roller coaster rides since they are scary.  Did you read about the 3-year-old who feel out of the roller coaster ride?  I tucked my girls inside the ride between two girls who were 8 and 10.  I figured that the worst thing that could happen was motion sickness.  Ohmygosh!  The girls LOVED this ride.  I have not seen so much giggling EVER!

They also rolled down a big hill.  Did you ever do this?  I can remember doing it in high school and it was fun then….so I am imagining that it is still fun!  We were at an Easter Egg Hunt that said they started at 1:00 and there would be 35,000 eggs and a helicopter drop.  They didn’t start the egg hunt until 3:30.  It was hot and we didn’t make it that long.  We left with 45 minutes to go.  I think it is really bad planning to have the kids hunt the eggs at the end.

Homemade popsicles were a HUGE hit.  I ordered the Orka A47221 Ice Pop Molds from Amazon and we tried two different juices in them.  They were fantastic!  I love that the molds are made out of silicone.  We are going to try to make healthier popsicles this summer….at least ones without a bunch of added sugar. This $10 investment will totally pay for itself.

I made Bacon Wrapped Asparagus to go with Easter dinner.  It was my first time making it and it was alright.  My husband is a firm believer that bacon goes with everything.  In fact, last weekend he went to Bacon Fest 2012 held in Atlanta and had a fantastic time.  He is already anticipating how much fun he will have in 2013.  Eek, my broiler pan needs a lot of TLC…..I am just realizing this from the photo.

We also celebrated my dad’s birthday a few days early.  He turns 51 on Friday….Friday the 13th.  He stopped at our house while moving from Florida to Arizona.  We couldn’t let such an important reason for celebration go by unnoticed.  So we had Angel Food Cake with Strawberries, which are his favorite.

I love that we did so many fun things this week and there was no money spent out of pocket to do them!  My husband did spent a lot of this weekend repainting our kitchen.  Photos to come later for that though!
