After the Target credit card breech this fall we were all reminded how important it is to stay on top of our credit! There are some free credit monitoring options that make it easy to monitor our credit. It is estimated that the Target data breach could affect as many as 110 million people. Information taken in December’s security lapse includes names, phone numbers, and postal and e-mail addresses.
Target is offering all guests who shopped in U.S. stores one-year of free credit monitoring. You will enter your information to request an activation code. Within 1 to 5 days you will receive an email from Target with your unique activation code. You request your code by April 23, 2014 and register your code by April 30, 2014. This Target credit monitoring offer allows you to receive your Experian credit report.
You can also go to Annual Credit Report to receive a free copy of your free credit reports. My husband and I do this once a year. FREE is good. The federal government requires that we are able to use this service once per year.

Also take a look at your credit card statements. Discover has started putting your FICO score on your statement. BarclayCard has your score available online. Other credit card companies will probably start offering this as well. It’s not a detailed look at the state of your credit, but if your score suddenly changes for no reason, you’ll know to investigate.
