I Attended The Walmart Ice Cream Social Event #theicecreamsocial

May 31, 2011 by Leandrea Voskanian

Were you able to attend The Walmart Ice Cream Social over the weekend?  After dropping our girls off at the YMCA for parents night out my husband and I ate dinner at Bahama Breeze and  then went to Walmart  and had some yummy Edy’s ice cream.  It was easy turing down the restaurant desserts when I knew that free ice cream was on the schedule.  Once we arrived at Walmart it took us a bit to find the Bright Ideas booth.  We thought that it would be by the ice cream, but it was in front of the aisle that contains all the yummy ice cream toppings.

I topped my Edy’s with the two available topping choices: Nesquick Chocolate Syrup and Reddi-Wip.

I am  a firm believer that Reddi-Wip is the supreme topping for all desserts and was delighted to see it as an option.  The ice cream  with toppings was super yummy and I almost had the courage to ask for another bowl.  For this being a free event I was impressed that the serving of ice cream was a scoop much bigger than a sample cup.  The scoop I received was probably about the proper portion size listed on the container.  If you missed this event be sure to mark July 2nd on your calendar as there will be a repeat ice cream social!

We were invited to a friend’s house over Memorial Day weekend.  Here in Atlanta it was a HOT weekend with temperatures in the 90’s.  Ice cream was the perfect dish to bring to an event with 12 children in attendance.  Ice cream is a special treat in our house.  I am one of *those* moms who reads the ingredient labels and cringes when the words “high fructose corn syrup, ” “corn syrup” and “artificially flavored” appears on the labels.  To keep my cringing to a minimum my shopping list doesn’t contain treats on a regular basis.  But for a special Memorial Day get together I overcame some of my food trepidations and bought a lot of treats…and I mean it when I say a lot!

My husband and I checked out the ice cream.  We looked for the words “artificial” to appear on the front of the vanilla packaging.  That was our first criteria.  The second criteria was for the ice cream to actually list “vanilla” in the ingredient list.

Then we examined the price per container.  You know the old school square cartons of ice cream?  They hold more volume and are cheaper priced than the new round containers with lids.  Who knew, right?

We ended up purchasing Vanilla ice cream, one with cookies, and rainbow sherbet. In the end, the vanilla and sherbet were the most popular. Almost every kiddo had Reddi-wip and sprinkles on their ice cream, even if they were eating a cone.

Having an ice cream social in the hot heat is a great idea!
