Today is Memorial Day, a national day of mourning. This fact gets lost in the hubub of sales during the three day weekend and the pure excitement of the start of summer. But I ask you to take a minute today to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died for our nation. They gave their lives for their county, and never came home from war. They never saw their families again. These brave men and women are heroes at the deepest level.

While today is Memorial Day I also think about my brother who is a Marine. He was recently deployed to Afghanistan for his third tour of duty. Typically we celebrate veterans on Veteran’s Day, but I will think about my brother just a little bit more today. We are so lucky to have so many brave soldiers in our great country.
Thank you to all of our brave soldiers who keep us safe. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed.
