Minnie Mouse Hair Bow Tutorial

June 9, 2022 by Leandrea Voskanian

Disney Magic is contagious.  Maybe you have a child who loves watching Disney Jr., playing at the Disney store, or spending time at Disney World or Disney Land.  Perhaps you are planning a Minnie Mouse birthday party.  It’s possible you are running a Disney Race like the Disney Princess Half Marathon (like me, when made and wore an adult size Rapunzel costume.  Running in a costume is so much fun).  Or maybe you just like to show your Disney Side.  Whatever the case…..a Minnie Mouse hair bow is essential for Disney fans. Without the addition of the bow onto the mouse ears…this is a great Mickey Hair Bow!

This Minnie Mouse hair bow tutorial walks you step by step through the process of making an adorably cute hair bow

Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse Hair Bow Materials

  • Scissors
  • Glue Gun (super glue works as well)
  • Ruler
  • Ribbon – White, red, or red & white polka dot (you could use pink & white polka dot for the less traditional Minnie Mouse)
  • Lighter
  • Hair Clips – you can also get these at beauty supply stores
  • Jewel
  • DMC string or thread

Start this project by covering the hair clip with red polka dot ribbon.  Use the lighter to lightly burn the edges of the ribbon before you glue it to the hair clip.  This will keep the ends from fraying.

The photo below is merely an example that shows you why you want to ensure the ribbon ends do not fray.

Using a ruler, measure and cut the black ribbon into the following pieces: one 4″, one 3.5″, one 3″, two 2.5″ (not pictured), and  two 2″ strips.  Fray check the end using your lighter.

Hot glue the ends of the ribbon together so they form circles. Glue the 3″ circle inside the 3.5″ circle. Then glue those into the 4″ circle.  When you are done, you will have one circle with three layers that will serve as the mouse head.  Glue the 2″ circle into the 2.5″ circle to form the ears.  Glue the ear circles to the top of the head circle and you will have one great looking Mickey Mouse.

Now to turn this Mickey Mouse Hair Bow How To into a Minnie Mouse Hair Bow Tutorial we are going to add a bow!  This totally goes along with the Minnie’s Boutique theme song:

Welcome to my new bow-tique.
Which each and every bow’s unique.
If fun and fashion are what you seek.
Come inside and take a peek.
You’ll find every kind of bow.
And bow-ties, you know.
So no matter what your style.
Shopping here is worth your while.
If fun and fashion are what you seek.
You’re always welcome at Minnie’s Bow-tique.

Using a 2 inch strip of red and white polka dot ribbon, create a circle.  Pinch the circle and tie a string around the center.  Glue this onto on the Mickey’s ears and it will turn into Minnie!  Add a tiny jewel to the middle of the bow to cover up the thread and give some sparkle!

Once you are all done with your hair bow you may look at it and think “Whoa.  That’s a lot of glue strings.”  I hope at least one other person thinks this.  I know I am a messy crafter and I will take solace knowing there is someone else who is not perfect like me.  To get rid of any extra glue string you have….the trick is….to lightly burn them.  They will melt off and leave your crafty masterpiece looking like a professional did it!

This little DUPLO Mickey Mouse Clubhouse toy is super cute!  I am ordering it for one of my favorite Mickey Mouse fans.

So, what do you think?  Is this something you will try?
