Wanted: Your Opinion on Entering Giveaways

December 7, 2010 by Leandrea Voskanian

I truly appreciate everyone who reads and supports Coupons are Great.  We have hosted a lot of giveaways in the past 6 weeks, which has been fun.  I love interacting with small businesses and have met some terrific business owners and PR people.  Several of you have won awesome prizes.  The giveaways haven’t stopped yet, be sure to check out the giveaways tab or the side bar to see what is currently running.

I recently expressed my thought on giveaway entry options here.  Low entries are ideal, of course, but there are many factors to consider.

There are several people who do not enter giveaways.  I understand, really I do.  I would love to hear what prevents you from entering giveaways?

Tomorrow there will be a short (2-4 day) giveaway for $30 in Paypal.  It is my birthday present to you!  I am not publicizing the giveaway on any other sites – it is truly for Coupons Are Great fans.  Would you prefer the giveaway be unlimited entry per person or one entry per person?  Please let me know what you prefer.  I promise to listen!

I love entering giveaways using Google Docs! So much easier than waiting for the page to re-load!

I like a few entries. I don’t like the ones that are +5 for this or that, one is enough. I really don’t like the unlimited entry ones.

I like having lots of entry options. Makes it so if you really want to win you come back and tweet daily etc.

I like when there are a few options for entry. But I must say that it gets overwhelming if you enter lots of contests. I’m going back to read your post on entering contest to see if I can get some tips! 😉

I agree with most of the previous comments. I would rather have just one or two entries. More chances to win is nice but it just takes too long.

I like contests with 1-4 entries per person. You know, the first for answering a mandatory question (preferably an interesting one related to the giveaway) and the other 3 optional for facebook, twitter, or blog following.

I vote for the one entry method. The unlimited entry method favors those either with more time, or who have figured out a way to enter them quickly.
Thanks for your blog and great giveaways!

I prefer giveaways with 1-2 entries. I just don’t have the time to put in multiple responses. There are a few other blogs I follow which have a very systematic entry system, all on the main page. I love to enter these because they are quick and easy.

Thank you for all you do.

I like giveaways with one entry because I don’t have time to be on the computer a lot and a lot of entries make it harder to do.

I don’t enjoy unlimited entry giveaways. I’ve participated in a few. Most involved unlimited tweeting. One involved posting items from the sponsor’s catalog (so not unlimited, but close). Working the unlimited entry angle is a lot of work. There are only certain prizes for which I’m willing to work that hard. If the prize isn’t important enough to me to do the unlimited entries, I usually don’t bother entering at all because I figure someone out there will flood the entry pool with so many entries that mine won’t be worth much. I might enter an unlimited entry giveaway if the mandatory is a quickie like follow a blog I’m already following, but if it involves going to the sponsor page and reporting back with something I learned, I just skip it.

The problem I have with unlimited entries is that I get more and more emotionally vested in the prize the more entries I put in. That means I’m really disappointed when I’ve spent all day tweeting every 15 minutes and then don’t win the prize. I’ve lost every giveaway that I tried to take advantage of the unlimited entries.

I could write a novel on my selection criteria for what giveaways to enter. 🙂

when offering a giveaway strictly for my readers/non-public i try to keep it to one or two ways to enter, so it’s quick and easy!

it does take ALOT of time to enter giveaways- personally i have about 800 emails to go thru and see if there are any giveaways i want to go back and enter, because i have not had time this past WEEK. but on the other hand, I’ve had people tell me they werent on twitter but on facebook, and wanted those as entries. So you’re in a quandry..

I’m looking at changing mine too. don’t feel alone!

I don’t usually enter things unless I really really want it. Even then I usually don’t because I hardly ever win. I really like the 1 entry per person. It makes it fair, that way person A has the same chance as person B instead of..person A having 3 entries and person B having 10..not fair..so 1 per person is the way to go. 🙂

I haven’t entered many giveaways lately because I’ve been overwhelmed with moving. I just went through this whole thing, too. I came up with this as my solution. I haven’t done a giveaway with these yet but have a couple in the works.

1: Easy entry – I do one mandatory and up to two optional (sponsors choice). Example: mandatory of visiting the sponsor site and do something. Optional of following them on Twitter and/or Facebook.

2: Increase my followers – Encourage readers to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, GFC, and/or RSS via email for special entries. I plan to send out a couple special notices with a link to a password protected post. They can leave a comment telling me where they got the password. Then when the giveaway is over, I can use a plugin to move legit comments to the actual post before picking a winner.

This was almost a post in itself. I hope it made sense to you.

I do any giveaways that appeal to me (if I wouldn’t care for the item, I don’t enter and leave it for someone else to win). I’ve won 3 different blog giveaways in the last 4-6 weeks. I think that’s an excellent conversion rate so I’ll keep entering. I don’t care if they are high or low entry, if they are random, I figure I have as good a shot as anyone and if I’m already following the blog then it takes really nothing for me to enter. If I’m not following, it’s a good excuse to start.

I would like just one or two entries. That way everyone has an equal chance.

I like giveaways with just a 2 or 3 entries. Sometimes there are giveaways with 10 entries, which is great because it is more chances to win… but it is time consuming too. The main reason why I would not enter a contest that I would probably like to win, is because sometimes there’s too many steps to take in order to enter.

Honestly I have only entered a handful of giveaways. Entering takes A LOT of time and multiple things to do, which I understand since I host them myself, but I just don’t have that time.

I think 1-2 entries would be good and easy.

I like reading blogs and entering giveaways. In my honest opinion I think one or two simple entries per person is great.

I don’t enter many because of a few reasons.. Mostly because it takes a lot of time to enter anything via the blackberry and many times they do not work and then because of high entries. My feeling is why work so hard to enter of my odds are slim to none.. 🙁
