There is nothing more frustrating than throwing good food away. Doesn’t it seem like bananas start turning brown and peaches develop a handful of bruises on the drive home from the grocery store? It’s enough to make you want to throw a toddler tantrum. There are ways to reduce the amount of food we throw out (eek, those words are cringe worthy).
Ways to Waste Less Food
Plan a Meal Menu – Purchase only the items you have planned to use. It’s like the “a place for everything and everything in its place” saying. A food for every purpose!
Eat the leftovers – Don’t just let the leftovers spoil in the fridge. Actually use them!
Freeze! – Freeze foods before they become overripe and icky. Frozen grapes are like candy. Almost every food can be frozen – just google it!
Dehydrate – A food dehydrator comes in very handy for select produce that is getting old (apples, bananas, apricots, etc). We have a dehydrator and my girls love making dehydrated apples. I love that they only have one ingredient (APPLES!).
Make a smoothie – Fruit doesn’t need to look pretty before you blend and pulse it up into a smoothie! This is not recommended for rotting fruits, just the ugly ones. The Vitamix makes quick work of making smoothies.
Soup – A little of this and a little of that goes a long way when it comes to pasta, proteins, and veggies. You can create some awesome soups to eat (or freeze).
Do you have another way to reduce the amount of food you are throwing away? We would love to read all about it in the comments!
