Crafty Tuesday: How to Make Tulle Pom Poms

April 17, 2012 by Leandrea Voskanian

This week’s Crafty Tuesday craft is incredibly easy.  My daughter fell in love with these Tulle Pom Poms:

They were hanging on the ceiling at Bath and Body Works.  As soon as we walked through the door they were all that my daughter could look at.  She asked if we could make them.  Easy peasy!  We made tulle wands in September and this was easier than that!

Materials Required to Make a Tulle Pom Pom

  • Tulle (it is regularly priced at $1.49 per yard at JoAnns.  I used 5 yards for 4 Pom Poms and used a 40% off coupon)
  • Book
  • Scissors
  • String, Ribbon, or Fishing Line

Make a Tulle Pom Pom

  • Cut your tulle into strips.  6 inches is a good width.  If you leave the tulle folded from the store it is very easy to cut!

  • Wind the tulle around the book.  In my experience the smaller book worked better.  The wider book would have made better Pom Poms if I had wrapped more tulle and made it thicker.

  • Take a piece of string/ribbon/fishing line and pull it between the book and tulle.  You will have ribbon on both sides of the tulle.  Pull tight and tie.

  • Trim any stray ends.

  • Turn the tulle bowtie (as my five-year-old called it) into a poof by pulling the layers toward you.  Fluff and shape until you get the perfect Tulle Pom Pom.

Hang from the ceiling for a fun look.  This is very popular in my house and I will be making more for my older daughter’s room as well!
