Creating a Back to School Routine for Kids and Moms Too #Moms4JNJConsumer #ad

August 28, 2014 by Leandrea Voskanian

motherhood disclaimer

Heading back to school can mean some serious schedule changes.  Maybe it’s not the schedule that changes so much as it is the total time crunch to get everything done in a short time frame that causes stress.  We needed a checklist at our house for our Morning School Routine.  It amazed me that something as simple as putting shoes on in the morning could lead to a minor meltdown a few minutes before we headed out the door for school.  Once our routine was printed and established the mornings are now much smoother.  Our school morning routine consists of getting dressed, going to the bathroom, eating breakfast, brushing teeth, brushing hair, putting deodorant on, putting shoes on, and grabbing the lunch and back packs.

The thing about Back to School is that a morning routine isn’t the only one that needs to be (re)established.  There’s a bedtime routine……and a mommy routine too.  Now that my girls are in school I am able to shop without them, which is both good and bad.  It seems like I am constantly forgetting something on our shopping list, and if the girls had been with me the chances are less that I would have forgotten.  On the flip side, the chances are much higher that my shopping cart would have had an extra two, three…..six items in it that I didn’t intend on purchasing.

My morning routine needed a major refreshing this school year.  This is the year that I finally embraced the fact that my skin is my largest organ and that I should be taking care of it.  My biggest challenges are moisturizing my skin with lotion and putting on sunscreen.  I am a big fan of Lubriderm lotion being easy to use and not greasy or scented .  In fact, Little Sister suffers from dry skin and she has been using this lotion in the morning before school if she makes it through the morning checklist with time to spare.

3 Ways to Re-energize Your Morning Routine

1) Carve time for yourself. Wake up a few minutes early to walk around the house and turn on the lights, write in a journal, or read a few pages in a book.  Those few extra minutes of time for YOU will start the day out great.

2) Try a new product.  Moisturize with a new product or a new scent, try a different color of lipstick, rinse with a new mouthwash.  Chances are that you will step out of your comfort zone and add a new favorite to your supplies.

3) Eat a healthy meal.  Prepare freezer breakfasts ahead of time so you are ready to start the day with all the nutrients your body needs.  Eat breakfast like a king and dinner like a pauper.
