Crafty Tuesday: Pumpkin Leaf Decoration

October 25, 2011 by Jessica

I am sure many of us are preparing for Halloween events this week as it is less than a week away.  I have taken on the responsibility of being the lead party mom at my daughter’s preschool, which means I have a Halloween party I am preparing for.  The crafty side of me is never willing to take the fast and easy way in party planning so I have been busy crafting.  So busy that while I would love to share some of my other projects that took a little more time, I am just going to share a quick and easy craft with you all this week.

I LOVE crafting with supplies you can find outdoors.  I have no idea why; I just think it’s fun (and frugal!).  This project is so simple, but can be really cute depending on how much effort you put into it.  You can use it for any number of crafting projects to embellish.  I made tags to put on each child’s treat bag at my daughter’s school using this craft.  (So having to make 12 in one night, I simplified my Jack-O-Latern face but I am sure some of you could get quite detailed with this!)

SUPPLIES:

  • Large Leaf that has already fallen from a tree and discolored to brown or orange (but it works best if it is not brittle yet!)
  • Colored Cardstock
  • Glue (hot or craft glue works!)
  • Xacto Knife
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

1.  Cut your leaf into a circular pumpkin shape (you can chose whether or not to cut a steam or leave it off).

2.  Using the xacto knife and a surface that you can work on (I just used a paper plate), cut out the eyes, nose, mouth of your jack-o-latern.   If you would rather not freehand, use a fine tip permanent marker to draw your outline before cutting.

3.  Glue the finished Jack-O-Latern to some colored construction paper.

4.  Cut and construct the paper however you chose.  I also thought about using these with the “Happy Halloween” banner I am making to have at each end and between the two words.   Here’s my finished tag.. nothing too special but I did ink the edges of my paper!

I bet some of you have done some really cute Halloween crafts these past few weeks!  Feel free to share them with us here!!  We always love new craft ideas!
