Making Shamrock Hair Bows is incredibly easy! I’m not just saying that either. Not only are the easy to make, but they are pretty darn adorable! My girls get so many compliments when they wear these cute little bows, which makes them smile.
What You’ll Need to make Shamrock Hair Bows
- Pinch Clips (try a beauty supply store like Sally’s. I paid $5.00 for 100 clips)
- Green Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun (I love my low temp glue gun!)
- Scissors
- Lighter/No Fray
- Embellishments (optional)
Directions to Make Shamrock Hair Bows:
1) Cover your clip. I start on the inside and work around, but there is no right or wrong way to do this. Apply a strip of hot glue to the clip and then quickly put the ribbon on trying to center it as much as possible. I use a lighter to seal the ends of the ribbon so they do not fray. You can also use No Fray. Sealing the ends of the ribbon at the end of each cut will ensure that your bows hold up for longer periods of time.
When you are done covering the clips they will be lined on the inside and outside. I prefer to only line the inside of the top, but again that is a personal preference.
2). Now that you have a lined clip or two it is time to make a heart. Pinch a piece of ribbon about two inches from the end. Apply some hot glue to the middle of your pinched spot.
3). From where you just glued, take the ribbon and form a heart.
4). Do not cut any ribbon. Instead turn your ribbon and make another heart using the same procedure. You will have two hearts using the same piece of ribbon.
5). If this is one of your first ribbon making experiences you may find that you want to stop at two hearts. This is totally fine! Using the same procedure make a single heart that you will glue to the double hearts. If you are an advanced bow maker you can make all three hearts without cutting any ribbon.
6). Adhere the hearts to your lined clip and you will have an adorable Shamrock Hair Bow. We glued a sparkle in the middle as a fun embellishment, but it is not necessary.

When I was a kid, the woven barrettes with dangling ribbon were popular. My mom was wicked crafty like you so she came up with all sorts of tiny things to attach to the ends of the ribbons. Mini shamrocks made like this would have been a cute addition.
