An old classis has recently been released on DVD.  Babar, the elephant king is available on two classic DVD’s: Best Friends Forever and School Days.(SRP $14.98).  Babar first appeared in a Jean de Brunhoff’s 1931 storybook classic.  Babar is the story of a little elephant who leaves the jungle, visits the city, and returns to the jungle with a plethora of stories and life lessons.  There have been over 12 million Babar books sold and an award-wining HBO Family series created based on this charismatic elephant.  The series teaches the most valuable lesson of all: despite life’s challenges, great things are possible if one never gets discouraged. As Babar says, “Long live happiness!”

Babar: The Classic Series: Best Friends Forever – This 90 minute DVD features four episodes that focus on the bonds of friendship.  Elements taught include friendship, fitting in, cooperation, teamwork, understanding, and working through disagreements.

Babar: The Classic Series: School Days – This 90 minute DVD features four episodes about Babar’s own school day adventures as well as those of his friends and family. In each tale Babar learns important lessons on acceptance, honesty and patience  Children will learn that differences make them special, that walking in someone else’s shoes may not be what they hypothesized it to be, and the benefits of telling the truth.

Our Thoughts: I recently sat down with my daughters (age 5 and 3.5) and watched the first episode on the Best Friends Forever DVD.  They both really enjoyed the show and have asked to watch more Babar.  It is nice to have these DVD’s in our collection!

    I would love to see my son win these DVD’s! We are lucky enough to have Babar on TV when the wind is just right. He loves the charachters and I love that the stories are simple and profound life lessons…Babar wants you to be good to everyone…Plus my son’s 4th birthday is in two weeks and I am drawing a blank on gifts.
