Cutting a watermelon is super easy. Cutting a watermelon into bite size pieces is possible….and getting cute shapes is possible too. Read on to learn how to cut a watermelon quickly and soon you will be almost as professional as the people who work at Edible Arrangements.
The secret to cutting open a watermelon is to cut off the rind first. You will need a sharp knife to do this (and maybe even use your knife sharpener before starting). My old, serrated knife does not work for cutting a watermelon. Do yourself a favor and use a sharp knife for this kitchen task.
For a really large watermelon you may want to cut the watermelon in half. If your watermelon is smaller then cut off a chunk from the bottom to make it flat so it sits on your cutting board perfectly. I prefer to cut a flat piece off the top as well. Once you have your watermelon on a flat surface you are ready to cut off the rind. Go around in a circle until it is all gone. Then cut into pieces – bite size or slices.
For the ultimate fun, break out your cookie cutters and make fun shapes! Insert a popsicle stick and give your child a spin off on a popsicle.
Now that you know how to cut a watermelon – learn How to Freeze Grapes. They are a super yummy snack in our house…almost as good as watermelon!
