We have been long time fans of The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child (in both book and DVD forms). When I heard there was a new Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler combination, Room on the Broom, I was instantly intrigued. Could they teamed up together to make another excellent product? Yes….yes they did!
This post on Room on the Broom is brought to you by NCircle Entertainment, who provided me a book and DVD for my time. Opinions and experiences shared here are all my own, and I hope you enjoy them.
Room on the Broom Synopsis
Room on the Broom is a new DVD based on the #1 best selling children’s picture book that depicts friendship and adventure. In this tale you join a friendly witch and her cat as they fly happily through the sky on their broomstick – until the witch drops her had, then her bow, then her wand. Luckily three helpful animals – a dog, a parrot, and a frog – find the missing items and all they want in return is a ride on the broomstick. Will there be enough room for all these friends? The kind witch believes there is….much to the dismay of the cat! Terror strikes when a fearsome dragon is about to eat the friendly witch. For the rest of the story….you will either need to get the book or watch the DVD. It’s totally worth it!
Our Thoughts
My girls and I immediately read the book when it came in the mail. We examined the end pages over and over again…finding small details within the pictures upon each closer look. The rhyming was very catchy and we actually read it two times in a row. It was several weeks until we were able to watch the DVD and we were so happy with it. While watching Room on the Broom, Big Sister remembered much of the book from weeks before (more than I did!) and tried to remember what was coming next. Little Sister just snuggled up next to me and absorbed everything. The musical score in this DVD is wonderful. I love the message of friendship and teamwork that dominates this movie. I have to admit, the cat is my favorite because he reminds me of Big Sister…who sometimes has a problem sharing. In then end cat doesn’t mind sharing with his new friends and realizes “the more the merrier” is applicable to everyday life.
Room on the Broom Educational Activities
Great stories are often made even better with supplemental activities. There are several Room on the Broom educational activities available for you to download. The Room on the Broom Printable Coloring Page is very fun since it shows the later version of the witch’s broom. There are also Room on the Broom finger puppets for you to print and cut out. The fun just keeps going!
Room on the Broom is definitely a cute movie worth watching or owning. I have seen Room on the Broom at Redbox if you want a weekend rental recommendation or you can pick it up from Amazon for $8.99.
