Running is great…..running is great…..running is great. I keep telling myself that Running is great over and over because I am running the Silver Comet Half Marathon this weekend. I am nervous. I am anxious. I am soooo not ready to run in in the sub-two hour goal that I have etched in my brain.
My miles look pretty good according to my Daily Mile graph. I ran 72 miles in September and am at 63 so far in October. My longest run has been 12 miles, which is fine for a 13.1 mile race. However, I haven’t done any speed work and I am very worried about that. My 9 and 10 mile long runs were terr-i-ble. I had migraines that started while I was running and making it back to the staring point was a tremendous accomplishment. It took 2 shots from the doctor and several migraine medications for my headache to finally go away.
So I have this time goal and it seems so ambitious right now. To show you why the two hour mark is my goal, here is my half marathon race history.
March 2010 – ING Half Marathon (My first ever!) – 2:01:12
March 2011 – Publix Half Marathon – 2:09:45
February 2012 – Disney Princess Half Marathon – 2:06:46
March 2012 – Publix Half Marathon – 2:05:03
My first ever half marathon finish time made me thirsty for a sub-two race finish….and instead of my times getting better they got worse. Ugh. I think more than anything that I need to work on my courage, attitude, and confidence.
When you wake up on Saturday I will be running the Silver Comet Half Marathon instead of sleeping in. As I embark on what will be the hardest goal I have set myself up to achieve this year I would love to think about some of the goals you have set for yourself that you thought were impossible but that you overcame.
