I was selected to host a Disney Side @ Home Celebration.
As a mom to two young girls I admit that I worry about a lot of things. We live in a world where pink and purple are the only color choices for girls (ok, that may be a tiny exaggeration, but it’s pretty true). I want my daughters’ futures to be limitless. We don’t talk about restrictions. If they want toy cars, dinosaurs, or their favorite color to be red…then that’s the way it is (and all three of those things are true in our house). Our Disney Side includes a love of a wide variety of characters
When the opportunity arose to apply to host a Disney Side party I was immediately excited. We have LOVED Peter Pan and Wendy since my girls were tiny (and Minnie Mouse too). My mother-in-law sewed Wendy, Tinker Bell, and Rosetta costumes for the girls years ago and the girls still manage to squeeze into them. The highlight of wearing these costumes was when we went on a Disney Cruise two summers ago and the girls were able to get their picture taken with Peter Pan…dressed up as Wendy and Tinker Bell (although that is not the picture below…I can’t find a good one of the girls together).

I am so excited that Disney is more than just princesses and “girly” things. Doc McStuffins is such a great example of what can happen when kids are allowed to use their imaginations. Peter Pan allows kids to think happy thoughts. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse uses primary colors throughout the episodes.
To celebrate our Disney Side I created a Mickey/Minnie Mouse Hair Bow Tutorial. It doesn’t get easier to show your love for Disney than with a super cute hair bow! These would have been perfect to make when I made the girls Mickey Mouse shirts for our Disney Cruise. Why is it that sometimes inspiration comes way later than it should?

We invited a few friends over and had a fun Disney related play date. Lots of Disney costumes were worn (even some Minnie ears with a wedding dress), t-shirts were made (I let the kids do whatever they wanted with their shirts and fabric markers), and goodies were dispersed.

Kids will be kids (it’s true). Giving them the tools they need to be unlimited and free to express themselves is one of the reasons we love Disney. There are so many great characters for a family to enjoy. For a bajillion creative ways to celebrate with Disney…and more…check out Spoonful for some great inspiration.
Do you have a Disney Side? Who is your favorite Disney character?

My son LOVES Peter Pan. And the spinoff of Jake and the Neverland Pirates. But we have also watched The Little Mermaid countless times and one of his favorite movies at the moment is Tangled. And that’s ok! I mean, how better to learn to treat girls like princesses than to familiarize yourself with princess movies? 😉
Jake and the Neverland Pirates is a favorite here too. My girls loved the episode when they turned into babies. They couldn’t stop telling me how cute the Baby Croc was! I love your last sentence. Love, love, love!
My favorite has got to be Peter Pan as well he is such an inspiration not because he doesnt want to grow up but because he has a mind set that eventhough he has been told he cant do something he says yes i can and i just love it 🙂
Overcoming adversity is definitely important to learn when growing up. I tell my girls to stop growing up all the time…..but they just don’t listen. 😉
