St. Patrick’s Day Traditions: Lucky Charms, Coins, and Painted Shamrocks

February 15, 2025 by Leandrea Voskanian

It’s possible that St. Patrick’s Day is another fun holiday for kids that is often overlooked by adults.  No, I am not THAT mom…you know….the overachiever.  But I do love adding fun to my girl’s lives with a St. Patrick’s Day Tradition.  I truly believe that we only have a limited amount of time to do these fun silly things with our kids before they grow up and think that we are totally lame.  So I WILL cherish all the small minutes with them.

If your child makes a Leprechaun trap here a few ideas that the small guy can leave in return. Two plastic gold coins and a sprinkling of gold glitter across the top of the trap equal a lot of fun.

Our St. Patrick’s Day Traditions

Do you have a St. Patrick's Day tradition? Here are some great ideas.

The girls also woke up to a box of Lucky Charms, 2 lottery tickets, 8 quarters, 2 glow rings, a few plastic golden coins, and some stick on green mustaches.

I think St. Patrick’s Day is the ONLY time of year that we have Lucky Charms in the house, so it is definitely a big deal to the girls.  I could see their little hands sneaking marshmallows out of the box while we were at the table.  Using Crayola Paint there was a decorative Shamrock on the kitchen table that had

A shamrock painted mirror is fun for a Leprechaun to leave behind.

There wasn’t a green toilet this time…but there were two green shamrocks painted on the bathroom mirror.  That was a great surprise to Little Sister when she went in to brush her teeth.  I think she stared at those paintings the entire time she brushed!

Make the milk be green on St. Patrick's Day...it's a silly suprise.

And St. Patrick’s Day would not be complete in Big Sister’s eyes without some green milk.  She was excited that I allowed her to make it herself this year.  She tried to convince little sister that green milk did not taste any different than white milk, but that didn’t work out so well.  Big Sister took green pancakes to school as a snack while Little Sister wanted nothing to do with them.  🙂

Green Peeps bunnies are perfect for St. Patrick's Day.

I tucked a St. Patrick’s Day Peep bunny into the girls lunches along with a St. Patrick’s Day Lunch Box Joke.  I can’t wait until they get home from school to tell me all about their day there!
