Reviving an old post – since my girls started 5th and 3rd grade today….our back to school traditions have been in full effect for the past 4 school years. I love looking back on these photos.
Last year when Big Sister started Kindergarten I knew there were two emotional choices. I could either be sad or happy (or pretend to be happy). I opted for the latter. Going to school is such a momentous occasion. I wasn’t go to be that mom….the one who cries and weeps and turns into mush on the outside for her kids to see. Instead I vowed to keep all my emotions in check and firmly in place when it was time for the big, first day of Kindergarten. I was barely successful and didn’t let a single tear spill until after we said good-bye leaving the kindergarten classroom on the first day of school.
Last year our first Back to School Tradition was born. With a roll of streamers and a few balloons (both are available at the Dollar Store, Walmart, Target, and even Amazon) I was able to create a Back to School Wonderland (coincidentally, this is a great backdrop for a before school photo). The total cost of this crafty endeavor is $1.00 per roll of crepe streamers and $1.00 for a bag of balloons. That is definitely one cheap way to elicit smiles from the little members of your household. Bedroom door decorating is a huge hit in my house. The girls think I should do it for their birthdays, Christmas, and even Halloween too!
You can totally tell that Big Sister was ready to go and embracing the world of First Grade.
Little Sister was still super sleepy and not ready to start her day quite so early!
